Night Walk at Kubah National Park
per person
A hike through equatorial rainforest with its mind-blowing flora and unique fauna is a stunning experience.
But to explore the rainforest at night time is something else! It is hard to put in words, but the atmosphere in the forest during night fall, when the light changes and nocturnal animals, birds and insect spring to life, is just very special and exciting. This manifests itself in the animistic belief of the natives, according to which the spirits of nature are most active during dusk and dawn.

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 06:30 pm and together you will drive to Kubah National Park, just about 20 km away from Kuching. This national park is one of the best places for a night walk as it has areas that allow easy walking in the dark and yet provides good opportunities to spot some creatures of the night.
Your guide will brief you how to scan the surrounding trees with your torch light on the lookout for reflecting pairs of eyes. Walk slowly and quietly to increase your chances of wildlife sightings. You will be astonished on how many pairs of eyes you will see, which you would not have been able to spot during day light! And surprisingly it is the small creatures that are easier to find during night walks, such as frogs, insects and birds. If you are lucky, you might also spot lizards, snakes, small deer, slow loris, flying lemurs or tarsiers.
A visit to the frog pond at Kubah National Park at night is certainly not to be missed too! Here you will find a myriad of different frog species, including the Matang narrow-mouthed frog, one of the smallest frogs in the world! This frog is the size of a pea and lives in and around insect-eating pitcher plants. Noteworthy is also the extraordinary soundscape at the frog pond! The orchestra of frogs, cicadas and other insects, as well as nocturnal birds is simply amazing. In fact, a recording of the bioacoustics at this frog pond won an international contest for being the “Most Beautiful Sound in the World”. Enjoy the unique concert!
