Silabur – The Jade Cave

Silabur – The Jade Cave

per person

Find out why this truly enchanting spectacle of nature, Silabur earned the name of ‘Jade Cave’!

The Silabur cave is amongst the most beautiful anywhere and should be on the list of places you must see when in Sarawak! Cracks in the cave ceiling channel sun rays into the cave, which illuminate the cave walls. Depending on the angle and intensity of the sun rays, the cave walls seem to shine in translucent colour shades of green, blue and purple. It’s thanks to this truly enchanting spectacle of nature that Silabur earned the name ‘Jade Cave’!

The tour starts from Kuching around 08:00 am. A drive of about 2 hours through scenic landscapes brings you to a small Bidayuh village near the Indonesian Borneo. Here you will meet a local community guide and together you will hike for about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach Silabur cave or ‘Lobang Batu’ (Malay for ‘rock hole’) as the locals call it. The last 30-40 minutes of your trek, the trail will be ascending a bit steeper. But all the effort and sweat will be forgotten once you reached your destination. As your eyes start adjusting to the dim light in the cave you will be stunned by the spectacle of nature unfolding in front of your eyes! Marvel at the jade-like surface of the cave walls shining in shades of green, blue and/or purple! Venturing deeper into the cave you will also be impressed by the enormous size of this limestone cave system.  After your cave exploration, descend back to the foot of the mountain, where you will find a small river cave. Depending on the water level, you can take a refreshing dip or at least wade through the cooling water of the small natural pool outside the cave. Enjoy the serenity of the jungle surroundings! A packed lunch will be provided for this tour. In the early afternoon walk back to the village and return to your hotel in Kuching (expected arrival around 05:00 pm).
