per person
Discover one of the oldest Bidayuh mountain village in southern Sarawak.
Bung Jagoi is one of the oldest Bidayuh villages in the region of Bau. The villagers belong to the ethnic group of the Bidayuh, or more correctly to one of the many Bidayuh subgroups referred to as Bijagoi. The village was established sometime in the 1840’s by Bidayuh, who fled from an area called Bung Bratak due to raids and attacks by Iban warriors. They resettled on a saddle of Mount Jagoi (~480 metres), where they built their houses around a ‘Baruk’ (a ceremonial house/hut). As the village flourished and grew over decades, the villagers started moving to the foothills due to space constraints and easier accessibility, thus founding several new villages such as Kampung Duyoh, Kampung Serikin and many more. Today the old mountain village is a popular weekend getaway for locals and in the ‘Baruk’ visitors can learn about the heritage of Bung Jagoi and the Bijagoi people.
