Tanjung Datu National Park

You will depart Kuching at 09:00 am for a 2 hours’ drive to the fishing village of Telok Melano. Enjoy a local lunch before embarking on a boat ride (approx. 15 minutes; depending on tides and weather conditions) to Tanjung Datu National Park. Although one of the smallest national parks in Sarawak, it is second to none in terms of natural beauty with its lush rainforest, white sandy beaches and turquoise-blue sea. You may opt for a swim in the warm South China Sea. Enjoy the special atmosphere during sunset in this little paradise, while your guide prepares a barbecue dinner for you (weather permitting). After dinner, your guide will take you on a night walk in search of tarsiers, reptiles and nocturnal birds. The park also runs a sea turtle conservation programme. If you get lucky you might witness a female sea turtle landing at the beach at night to lay eggs. Camping in the park’s forest huts or tents (basic sanitary facilities with cold water only).

After breakfast, head out for a trek along one of the trails leading into the rugged forest-covered hills, offering spectacular coastal views. Discover a range of unusual plant species, such as huge umbrella palms and strangling figs. Tanjung Datu’s animal life is equally rich and varied and together with your guide you will try to spot macaque monkeys and langurs, bearded pigs and civet cats. Return to the park headquarters for lunch. In the afternoon you may choose to venture on another trek or rest at the beach, enjoying the crystal-clear water. Dinner and overnight at the park.

After breakfast, you have a bit of time free at leisure before returning to Telok Melano by boat. After lunch at a nearby village called Sematan, you will return back to Kuching (expected time of arrival at 04:00 pm). Tour ends with transfer to your hotel.
